The World Drone Flight: A megacity is a very large city metropolitan area, typically with a population of more than 10 million people. Rio de Janeiro Drone Flight: The Maracanã (Portuguese: Estádio do Maracanã), officially named the Estádio Jornalista Mário Filho, is a stadium in Rio de Janeiro. The stadium is part of a complex that includes an arena known by the name of Maracanãzinho, which means The Little Maracanã in Portuguese. Owned by the Rio de Janeiro state government, it is, as is the Maracanã neighborhood where it is located, named after the Rio Maracanã, a now canalized river in Rio de Janeiro. Rio de Janeiro Drone Flight: Rio de Janeiro is a huge seaside city in Brazil, famed for its Copacabana and Ipanema beaches, 38m Christ the Redeemer statue atop Mount Corcovado and for Sugarloaf Mountain, a granite peak with cable cars to its summit. The city is also known for its sprawling favelas (shanty towns). Its raucous Carnaval festival, featuring parade floats, flamboyant costumes and samba dancers, is considered the worlds largest. Sporting pursuits include volleyball on Ipanema Beach, surfing at Arpoador and paragliding from the lofty Pedra Bonita viewpoint. Sandy beaches stretch from Guanabara Bay to Barra in the west, all of them with cycle tracks and kiosks selling coconut water. Tijuca National Park features rainforest-covered mountains filled with waterfalls, hiking trails and toucans. Samba, forró and bossa nova bands perform in the bars of the Lapa area. Modern art is exhibited at Museu de Arte Moderna and Museu de Arte do Rio. Podgorica Drone Flight: Podgorica is the capital city of Montenegro. Its rivers and bridges include the modern Millennium Bridge over the Morača River, and the stone bridge spanning the Ribnica River. The centuries-old Clock Tower, built by the Turks, dominates the old town. In the Zeta-Skadar valley south of the city, Lake Skadar National Park is home to medieval monasteries, beaches, and birds like the Dalmatian pelican. The Osmanagića Mosque and Ribnica Fortress are examples of the citys Ottoman architecture. The Natural History Museum of Montenegro presents the biodiversity of the area through collections of fossils, ferns and mammals. Petrović Palace, a former royal residence now home to the Center of Contemporary Art of Montenegro, is in a forested park. Also in the park is the Church of Saint Demetrius, with carved wood decorations. North of Podgorica is Doclea, an archaeological site with Roman ruins. Detroit: The Detroit People Mover (DPM) is a 2.94-mile (4.73 km) automated people mover system that operates on a single track encircling Downtown Detroit, Michigan. The People Mover uses Urban Transportation Development Corporation Intermediate Capacity Transit System Mark I technology and the cars are driverless. A siding allows the system to be used in a two-way bypass manner when part of the circular track is closed. The QLine streetcar serves as a link between the Detroit People Mover and New Center Amtrak station, plus additional access to DDOT and SMART bus routes as part of a comprehensive network of transportation in metropolitan Detroit. // The Detroit People Mover has its origins in 1966, with Congressional creation of the Urban Mass Transportation Administration (UMTA) to develop new types of transit. In 1975, following the failure to produce any large-scale results and increased pressure to show results, UMTA created the Downtown People Mover Program (DPM) and sponsored a nationwide competition that offered federal funds to cover much of the cost of planning and construction of such a system. UMTA reviewed thirty-five full proposals. From these, they selected proposals from Cleveland, Houston, Los Angeles, and St. Paul. In addition, UMTA decided they would approve proposals from Baltimore, Detroit, and Miami to develop People Mover systems if they could do so with existing grant commitments. Rio de Janeiro Drone Flight: Rocinha is the largest favela in Brazil, located in Rio de Janeiros South Zone between the districts of São Conrado and Gávea. Rocinha is built on a steep hillside overlooking Rio de Janeiro, and is located about one kilometre from a nearby beach. Most of the favela is on a very steep hill, with many trees surrounding it. Almost 100,000 people live in Rocinha, making it the most populous favela in Brazil. Although Rocinha is officially classified as a neighbourhood, many still refer to it as a favela. It developed from a shanty town into an urbanized slum. Today, almost all the houses in Rocinha are made from concrete and brick. Some buildings are three and four stories tall and almost all houses have basic sanitation, plumbing and electricity. Compared to simple shanty towns or slums, Rocinha has a better developed infrastructure and hundreds of businesses such as banks, medicine stores, bus routes, cable television, including locally based channel TV ROC (TV Rocinha), and, at one time, a McDonalds franchise. Cayenne Drone Flight: Cayenne is the capital of French Guiana, on the northeast coast of South America. Its 17th-century old town district blends influences from France, the Caribbean and Brazil. Tropical-colored Creole-style houses sit beside hilltop ruins of the French colonial Fort Cépérou, which overlooks the Cayenne River. Shops and cafes can be found on the main commercial thoroughfare, Avenue du Général de Gaulle. Place des Palmistes, at Général de Gaulles west end, is a palm-filled square surrounded by food carts. Nearby is the bright-yellow 19th-century Hôtel de Ville (the town hall). The Place Victor Schoelcher market features local spices, Amerindian crafts and Asian food. The Musée des Cultures Guyanaises focuses on the regions many ethnicities, while the Musée Alexandre Franconie has wildlife displays. The suburb of Remire-Montjoly to the east offers honey-colored beaches where leatherback turtles lay eggs, Fort Diamant overlooking the Mahury River and the 5km-long Rorota rainforest trail. French Guiana is an overseas department of France on the northeast coast of South America, composed mainly of tropical rainforest. The ruins of 17th-century Fort Cépérou overlook the capital, Cayenne, with its colorful Creole houses and street markets. Shops and cafes surround the palm-filled main square, Place des Palmistes. The Rémire-Montjoly suburb is lined with Atlantic coast beaches. To the northwest is the coastal town of Kourou, home to the Guiana Space Centre, a spacecraft launch site and museum offering guided tours. Offshore are the Îles du Salut, comprising 3 small islands with the ruins of a notorious penal colony known as Devils Island, portrayed in Henri Charrières book “Papillon.” Huge leatherback turtles come ashore, notably in the Awala-Yalimapo commune on the Suriname border, during nesting season. Paraiba Drone Flight: Paraíba, a state in Brazils Northeast, is known for its tropical coastline and Portuguese colonial architecture. Chicago: The Loop (historically Union Loop) is the 1.79-mile (2.88 km) long circuit of elevated rail that forms the hub of the Chicago L system in the United States. As of 2012, the branch has served 74,651 passengers every weekday. The Loop is so named because the elevated tracks loop around a rectangle formed by Lake Street (north side), Wabash Avenue (east), Van Buren Street (south), and Wells Street (west). The railway loop has given its name to Chicagos downtown, which is also known as the Loop. Transit began to appear in Chicago in the latter half of the 19th century as the city grew rapidly, and rapid transit started to be built the late 1880s. When the first rapid transit lines opened in the 1890s, they were independently owned and each had terminals that were located immediately outside of Chicagos downtown, where it was considered too expensive and politically inexpedient to build rapid transit. Charles Tyson Yerkes aggregated the competing rapid transit lines and built a loop connecting them, which was constructed and opened in piecemeal fashion between 1895 and 1897, finally completing its last connection in 1900. Upon its completion ridership on the Loop was incredibly high, such that the lines that had closed their terminals outside of downtown had to reopen them to accommodate the surplus rush-hour traffic. // The Chicago L (short for elevated) is the rapid transit system serving the city of Chicago and some of its surrounding suburbs in the U.S. state of Illinois.
