In 2016, Miroslaw Wawak traveled to Swaziland—now officially known as Eswatini—and experienced one of Africa’s last remaining monarchies. Despite its small size, the country offered a deep cultural immersion, from traditional ceremonies to local crafts. He explored the rolling hills, visited wildlife reserves, and interacted with communities that held tightly to their customs. The pride and unity of the Swazi people stood out, and the landscapes felt untouched by mass tourism. It was a destination of authenticity, where heritage is not a show but a living part of everyday life.

About Swaziland: Eswatini, formerly known as Swaziland, is a small yet captivating kingdom in Southern Africa, offering a rich tapestry of cultural heritage, stunning landscapes, and unique wildlife experiences. Despite its size, Eswatini is packed with diverse attractions that make it a must-visit destination for travelers seeking an authentic African experience. One of Eswatinis top highlights is its vibrant cultural scene, deeply rooted in tradition. The annual Umhlanga (Reed Dance) and Incwala ceremonies are significant cultural events where visitors can witness traditional Swazi rituals, dance, and music, offering a rare glimpse into the kingdoms rich heritage. Nature enthusiasts will find Eswatinis landscapes breathtaking. The Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary, the oldest protected area in the country, offers diverse wildlife viewing, including zebras, antelopes, and various bird species. The sanctuarys scenic hiking and biking trails allow visitors to explore its picturesque valleys and savannas at their own pace. Hlane Royal National Park is another top destination, home to the Big Five (lion, elephant, rhino, buffalo, and leopard), making it ideal for safaris. For those interested in breathtaking scenery, the Lebombo Mountains and Malolotja Nature Reserve offer stunning vistas, waterfalls, and hiking opportunities. Malolotja is known for its dense forests, high-altitude grasslands, and the exhilarating Malolotja Canopy Tour, where visitors can zip-line through the lush treetops. Eswatinis craft markets, such as the famous Swazi Candles Craft Market and Ngwenya Glass Factory, showcase the countrys thriving arts and crafts scene. Here, visitors can purchase handmade goods, including vibrant candles, intricate beadwork, and recycled glassware, providing a perfect souvenir of their journey. Whether youre exploring its cultural festivals, encountering wildlife, or enjoying its natural beauty, Eswatini offers an enriching travel experience that combines tradition, adventure, and serenity. As one of Africas last remaining monarchies, Eswatini is a destination where history and modernity blend seamlessly, offering something for every traveler.
