⚖️ Case Study ⚖️
In mid-2023, one of Brazil’s largest broadcast groups, the BAND Network, learned first-hand how unforgiving YouTube’s copyright enforcement system can be. The episode began after One Man Wolf Pack filed copyright takedown notices against several regional channels that were operating under the BAND branding, including Rádio Bandeirantes Goiânia and Rádio BandNews Goiânia. Both accounts were removed in June 2023 for repeated copyright violations.
YouTube’s internal policy treats related or jointly-managed accounts as part of the same network; when one violates the platform’s terms, others can automatically fall with it. The idea is simple: stopping serial infringement across an organization, not just an individual upload.
BAND Falls Hard: Brazilian Broadcaster Loses Copyright Lawsuit Over Unauthorized Drone Footage »This was the same enforcement wave that permanently removed multiple “regional” BAND channels in June 2023 following confirmed copyright strikes. Soon after those terminations, BAND’s flagship YouTube channel – Rádio BandNews FM – disappeared as well. According to court documents, YouTube’s enforcement was triggered by copyright complaints originating from One Man Wolf Pack’s copyrighted works. The company then sued Google Brasil Internet Ltda., operator of YouTube in Brazil, claiming that its main channel had been unfairly caught in the wave of enforcement and that its own uploads were limited to radio commentary.
The case, decided by the Court of Justice of Goiás (TJ-GO) in 2024, is public and can be viewed here:

The court acknowledged that the copyright claims were legitimate but held that YouTube had not demonstrated which specific videos on that particular account infringed. Invoking Brazil’s Consumer Defense Code, the judge ruled that the platform could not disable the channel without proving an individual violation by that exact account. YouTube was ordered to restore the channel and pay R$ 7,000 in moral damages.
The ruling did not invalidate YouTube’s right to remove infringing material. It criticized the procedure, not the principle. YouTube’s network-level enforcement remains valid under its global Terms of Service, but Brazilian consumer law required more evidence in this instance.
In practice, the decision shows how national laws can sometimes collide with platform automation: YouTube enforces at scale, while courts demand individualized proof. For creators, it confirms that the platform’s policy works — the takedowns were serious enough to disable multiple BAND properties. For broadcasters, it’s a reminder that sharing infrastructure across channels carries risk: a strike in one place can echo across the network.
This kind of collateral enforcement is not limited to Brazil. Similar situations have appeared elsewhere — a Hong Kong television broadcaster recently lost a major YouTube presence under the same “linked-channel” policy. When an ecosystem of accounts is interconnected, copyright abuse in one can jeopardize them all.
The BAND case illustrates both the reach and the rigor of today’s digital copyright enforcement:
🟥 Accountability scales upward: Major networks are no longer immune from the same rules applied to small creators.
🟥 Automation has consequences: Linking multiple brands under one account structure can make every channel a potential casualty.
🟥 Copyright enforcement has real impact: Even powerful media companies must now reckon with creators whose work they once treated as public-domain filler.
What began as a local takedown request became a legal chain reaction reaching national headlines and courtrooms. And it sends a simple warning to every publisher, broadcaster, or influencer operating multiple channels under one umbrella:
⚖️ When YouTube pulls the plug, the whole network can go dark.
The precedent serves as a reminder that copyright enforcement is not selective — networks thrive on shared infrastructure, and that shared risk can become shared liability.
At One Man Wolf Pack, we welcome the court’s recent decision confirming BAND Network’s liability for the unauthorized use of our copyrighted drone footage. The ruling recognizes both material and moral damages, reaffirming that broadcasters are not exempt from respecting creators’ rights. It also confirms the admissibility of blockchain-preserved evidence and enforces per-second compensation standards, setting a vital precedent for digital copyright protection in Brazil.
We continue to defend our work against unlawful commercial exploitation and to support a fair, transparent, and accountable media landscape — where creativity is licensed, not stolen.

A Brazilian court has officially ruled in a lawsuit involving the BAND Network and Google Brasil (YouTube) after the broadcaster’s flagship channel, Rádio BandNews FM, was deactivated in June 2023. The case began after One Man Wolf Pack filed multiple copyright claims against BAND-affiliated regional channels (Rádio Bandeirantes Goiânia and Rádio BandNews Goiânia) for unauthorized use of copyrighted drone footage.
Because YouTube enforces violations network-wide, BAND’s main channel was automatically taken down under its “linked-channel” policy. The Court of Justice of Goiás (TJ-GO) upheld the legitimacy of the copyright notices but ruled that YouTube had not proven which specific videos on Rádio BandNews FM were infringing, ordering reinstatement of the channel and payment of R$ 7,000 in moral damages. The judgment highlights the tension between automated copyright enforcement and individualized due process — confirming that global YouTube policies can collide with national consumer law.
This ruling shows that accountability scales — and even major media networks can face the same rules as individual creators.
