About Guayaquil: Estadio Monumental Banco Pichincha in Guayaquil, Ecuador, stands as the largest stadium in the country and a true titan of South American football. Built between 1986 and 1987 and officially inaugurated on December 27, 1987, with a friendly match against Peñarol, its the pride of Barcelona Sporting Club, though its name today reflects its sponsorship by Banco Pichincha. With a seating capacity officially around 57,267, the stadium has seen its limits pushed to over 75,000 fans, with a record attendance of more than 90,000 during high-profile fixtures. Nestled by the Salado estuary in the Bellavista district, this monumental venue replaced Barcelonas former home and was designed with sweeping stands, skyboxes, spacious terraces, and all the amenities to elevate matchday experiences for all fans. Beyond domestic league action, Estadio Monumental has hosted prestigious tournaments, including the Copa América 1993 (final included), the U-17 World Cup 1995, and Copa Libertadores finals in 1990, 1998, and most recently 2022. Its iconic status was cemented when Pelé himself reportedly compared it to the legendary Maracanã, calling it one of the most beautiful stadiums in the world. The stadium also pioneered technological upgrades in Ecuador, introducing the first full-scale LED perimeter board in South America in the mid-2010s and continues to evolve with new display systems and improved infrastructure.
