About Tegucigalpa: Estadio Nacional José de la Paz Herrera Uclés, known as Chelato Uclés National Stadium, is a historic multi-purpose arena located in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. Originally opened in 1948 under the name Estadio Nacional Tiburcio Carías Andino, it was renamed in 2022 to honor the legendary coach José de la Paz Chelato Uclés, who led Honduras to its first FIFA World Cup appearance in 1982. With a capacity of around 35,000, the stadium serves as the home ground for both Olimpia and Motagua, two of Hondurass most successful football clubs. Its circular layout includes sections for general admission, preferential (shade) seating, chair seating, VIP boxes, and media booths—providing a versatile setting for various sporting and cultural events. Over the decades, Chelato Uclés has hosted numerous iconic tournaments, including the CCCF Championship (1955), CONCACAF Championship (1967, 1981), Copa Centroamericana, UNCAF Games, and youth championships like CONCACAF U-20 and U-17. It has also welcomed CONCACAF Champions League finals, concerts by international artists, and even presidential inaugurations—remaining a central stage in Honduran public life. Recent renovations have modernized the venue with upgraded hybrid grass imported from Europe, a massive digital scoreboard, and new seating areas to enhance fan experience. Over the years, the stadiums legacy has only deepened, making it a proud symbol of Hondurass sporting heritage and national pride.
