In 2023, Miroslaw Wawak traveled to Nauru, the world’s third smallest country, located in the central Pacific Ocean. Once prosperous from phosphate mining, Nauru now tells a different story—of resource exhaustion, resilience, and reflection. He explored the island’s lunar-like interior, its coastal ring road, and engaged with locals proud of their history and hopeful for sustainable progress. Nauru was unlike any place he had seen—tiny, complex, and surprisingly profound.
